Music in the Park: U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 22-7 Band

Celebrate the 75th anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 22-7 Band, at Krueger Band Shell in Northport, on Sunday, June 22, from 2-4 p.m.

The actual anniversary is Monday, June 23. But on Sunday U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Band will celebrate the diamond jubilee in Northport with a free concert in the park.

The band will perform an assortment of nautical, military and patriotic tunes, under the direction of Lee Dash of Manorville, NY.

For more information about the band or the concert, contact John Sasso, Flotilla Commander at 631-617-1412. More information regarding the performance and the Band can be found on the Band’s website at www.uscgauxband.org. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs.

And on July 13 from 11 am to 5 pm, the Eaton’s Neck Coast Guard Station will host an open house in honor of the Anniversary. This unique event on an operating Coast Guard Station will feature a broad spectrum of marine and environmental safety exhibits; and demonstrations such as knot tying, navigation, communications, proper use of safety equipment – including flare and fire
extinguishers demonstrations – and more.

Founded in 1939 by congress, the role of the Auxiliary expanded during World War II and members began wearing uniforms. During these early years auxiliarist developed professional working relationships with the Coast Guard. Continuing that tradition of service, 75 years later the Auxiliary is an integral part of Team Coast  Guard. Auxiliarists make a difference by volunteering their time, talents, and use their boats and
equipment. They are proud to serve their communities and the nation.

Each year, across the United States, auxiliarists teach boating safety classes for the public and  provide free vessel safety checks to promote recreational boating safety. Members engage in safety  patrols and search and rescue operations in support of the Coast Guard. Auxiliarists stand radio  watches at many Coast Guard stations and provide food service by cooking at stations and on Coast Guard vessels. They effectively act as force multipliers for the Coast Guard.
