Coming Up: Tree and Leg Lamp Lighting; Thanksgiving

A look at upcoming events and activities this week in Northport.

Happy Thanksgiving week, Northport! Before we all get into holiday-mode, here's a look at what's coming up this week in town:

Northport Village Christmas Tree Lighting
The annual Northport Village Christmas Tree Lighting, presented with the Northport Chamber of Commerce, will take place Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. in Village Park. See live reindeer from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., courtesy of the Window Shop Jewelers. Santa and his helpers will arrive by firetruck with the help of the Northport Fire Department and the Northport Chorale and DJ Tommy Bruno will be providing music to get in the Christmas cheer. Hot chocolate and cookies will be given out courtesy of Copenhagen Bakery, Tim's Shipwreck Diner and Northport Feed and Grain.

Northport Village Leg Lighting
A Northport tradition, the annual leg lamp lighting, a nod to "A Christmas Story," will take place Nov. 30 at Northport Hardware Store (90 Main St.) at 7 p.m.

East Northport Salvation Army Gym Celebrates Grand Re-opening
The Salvation Army Gym will celebrate its grand reopening Monday by unveiling its newly renovated floor. A ribbon-cutting ceremony with coffee and light dinner will take place at 8 p.m. at 319 Clay Pitts Road, East Northport.

Thanksgiving
Northport families will be celebrating Thanksgiving Thursday. Northport schools will be closed Thursday and Friday. The Northport and East Northport Public Libraries will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.
