Field of Flags Growing . . . and Growing

Two hundred flags sponosred so far via the Northport Rotary fundraiser.

Update, 5/19: The field of flags created by the Northport Rotary fundraiser, Stars and Stripes: A Tribute to Veterans, has expanded to the foot of Main Street in front of, appropriately, the war memorial on the northwest corner of Bayview Avenue.

The first field of flags appeared on the front lawn of Village Hall at the end of May. They next popped up at the gazebo in Village Park. And now the war memorial.

Flags can be sponsored for $35 and donors can take their flags home, June 18 or 19.

Proceeds will go to support the Northport Rotary's programs and, according to the event flyer, "will show our veterans how much we support their efforts in keeping the country safe in turn allowing us the freedoms we cherish today. We honor all veterans who have served and those currently serving and, perhaps most of all, those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The field of flags says thank you."

The flags will begin going up Friday, April 29 and will be taken down Flag Day, June 14. Sponsors may pick up their flag at June 18 and 19.
