Northport Harbor: A Fish Tale

It's a picture-perfect Wednesday in Northport.

And just like yesterday and the day before that Bob Liggio could be found fishing off the Northport Harbor dock.

Liggio is an avid fisherman. And although this spot is just steps from his Main St. home, he said it's also the best.

He could go anywhere. That's because the nearest bait and tackle shop is in Kings Park. He goes there for sandworms, but rarely drops a line beyond Northport.

"It's my best fishing spot by far," Liggio said as geese swam nearby.

He said fluke and flounder are running in the Harbor. And he's caught plenty of bluefish, snapper and porgies, depending on the season.

He hadn't reeled in anything by the time Patch arrived Thursday, but Liggio was fine with that.

Another benefit to his favorite fishing spot?

Liggio said: "I like it because it's quiet."
