Honors Keep Coming for Glenn Girls Basketball

Coach Andy Athanas and the Glenn girls basketball team received proclamations from Suffolk Legislature and Town of Huntington.

It’s been a busy off-season for the girls basketball team.

The Knights started 20-0 en route to winning a in March. And while in the Long Island championship game, these Glenn hoop stars are still picking up honors months later.

The girls received proclamations from the Suffolk County Legislature and Legis. Steve Stern, D-Huntington, on May 10. The Town of Huntington also honored the Knights last week, according to coach Andy Athanas.

“It was great,” said Athanas, who won his third county title of his 24-year career. “The [girls] were very excited. It’s [been some time] after the season ended and they were excited to get together as a team again.”

For Athanas, who is still going strong at 67 and owns 275 career wins, this is merely the kickoff to what promises to be another special season in 2012. He had open gym sessions in May and now summer ball paves the way to the fall. The team goes to basketball camp in Kutztown, Pa. next month.
