Cow Harbor Run 2012: The Who's Who

Three-time champ Mohamed Trafeh defends title against running's national elite.

Over 30 elite runners from around the country will be competing in the 35th Great Cow Harbor 10-Kilometer race on Saturday, including three-time defending champion and current course record holder who returns to stake his claim.

According to the race's elite runner coordinator William Fodor, Trafeh will face some tough competition to secure an unprecedented fourth title in the largest competitive race on Long Island. The top contenders are 2005 Champion and Long Island Native Anthony Famiglietti, 2011 Third Place Finisher James Strang from Colorado, and 2009 20K US champ Sean Quigley, also from Colorado.

Also in the hunt will be Chad Hall. Hall is the younger brother of 2008 and 2012 Marathon Olympian Ryan Hall, the 2006 champ and course record holder.

On the women's side, the top contenders will be Stephanie Rothstein from Arizona, a two-time top five finisher in two out of the last three years, and six time top ten finisher Alisha Williams of Colorado. Both competed in the 2012 Marathon Olympic trials race in Houston. Alicia in June ran the 10k meter and 5k meter finals at the Olympic trials.

Also in the hunt is Laura Kleppin from Colorado, who is new to the pro curcuit, and 36-year-old, Mary Akor, a two-time top ten finisher. Katie DiParrillo, a Long Island native from Garden City South, will also run.

"It should be a good tight race," said Fodor. "I don't see anybody blowing anybody away. The race is definitely too tough to call but good predicted weather should produce some fast times with a competitive race."
