Northport BOE to Present Budget, Voting Schedule

7 p.m. meeting in Brosnan Building Monday.

The Superintendent will present the 2013-2014 Budget Overview and Projected Revenue at the Monday night Northport-East Northport Board of Education meeting.

The following schedule of voting for the budget and trustee elections is up for approval by the Board:

FOR APPROVAL OF BUDGET FOR 2013-2014 AND ELECTION OF TRUSTEES

I. Voting take place from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. for three election districts as follows:

Election District #1 - Fifth Avenue School
Election District #2 - Dickinson Avenue School
Election District #3 - William J. Brosnan School

II. Registration Day will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at election headquarters in the William J. Brosnan School. (In accordance with the provisions of §2014 (2) of the Education Law, registration is also conducted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. of each school day at the office of the district clerk; and at each district school between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. whenever school is in session.)

III. Authorization be granted for the employment of as many of the following voting personnel as deemed necessary at the rate of $10.00 per hour. Names will be submitted at a later date.

Six members of the Board of Registry to sign in voters and act as Inspectors of Election and ten members of the Board of Registry to act as Special Assistants for the purpose of signing in voters, to serve on voting day, May 21st, (five at Fifth Avenue, five at Dickinson Avenue, and six at William J. Brosnan School);
Thirteen Voting Machine Operators to serve on May 21st, (four at Fifth Avenue, four at Dickinson Avenue, and five at William J. Brosnan School);
Six Assistant Clerks for the purpose of taking new registrations for following years and for the purpose of signing in voters whose names are taken from the Suffolk County Board of Election list, to serve on voting day, May 21st, (two at Fifth Avenue, two at Dickinson Avenue, and two at William J. Brosnan School).

IV. The LEGAL NOTICE announcing the Public Hearing and the Budget Vote and Election of Trustees will be published in The Observer and The Times of Northport, the official newspapers of the District, four times during the seven weeks preceding the day of vote: April 4, April 18, May 2, and May 16, 2013.

V. A PRELIMINARY PUBLIC HEARING to receive public input on the proposed budget will be held on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the William J. Brosnan School, 158 Laurel Avenue.

A SPECIAL MEETING for the final adoption of the proposed budget for 2013-2014 will be held on Monday evening, April 8, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the William J. Brosnan School, 158 Laurel Avenue.

A PUBLIC HEARING to present the final proposed budget to the voters will be held on Monday evening, May 13, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the William J. Brosnan School, 158 Laurel Avenue.

VI. That arrangements be made for the rental of voting machines from the Suffolk County Board of Elections; for the services of a custodian of voting machines in the event of mechanical difficulties; and for the drayage of machines to and from the Suffolk County Board of Elections Warehouse in Yaphank to each of the three election districts.

That the District Clerk is authorized to employ substitutes as necessary, and William J. Brosnan School is designated as the official meeting place of the Board of Education to receive the election returns.

VII. In accordance with Section 2019-a of the Education Law the Board of Education designate itself as a set of poll clerks to act as a central board of inspectors for the purpose of casting and canvassing ballots cast pursuant to such section.

VIII. FOR YOUR INFORMATION

The final budget plus required attachments are to be available on Monday, May 6, 2013, in each school of the district (Education Law requires that they be available at least fourteen days prior to the vote and seven days prior to the final public hearing).

Candidate petitions require a minimum of 85 signatures (2% of those voting in last year’s election, which was 4,287) and are due in the District Clerk’s Office by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013.
