E. Northport School Dedicates New Playground to Graduate Who Died Tragically

The children's athletic facility opened last Wednesday, in time for the new school year.

A new playground at the Long Island Lutheran Day School was dedicated last week to Spencer F. Carr, a graduate of the school, formerly known as St. Paul’s Lutheran School.

Dozens of local residents attended the dedication ceremony Aug. 28 to honor Carr, a graduate and Greenlawn resident who died in February 2012 after accidentally falling from his apartment balcony in Queens. He was 20 years old.

According to a press release from the school, bereavement didn’t stop his family and friends from wanting to pay tribute to his name and after a year of donations and fundraisers over $100,000 was raised to make their dream a reality.

Long Island Lutheran partnered with the Landtek Corp to work on the $140,000 project.

The playground, which is fashioned in the schools' colors of red, white and black, features swings, slides, tunnels, spinning monkey bars.
