Massapequa Schools Prepare to Sue State

The Massapequa School District is gearing up for a legal confrontation with New York State.

The board revealed that it is challenging the requirements of the Education Department and the commissioner of education in regards to the Annual Professional Performance Review of Teachers and Principals (APPR), and are authorizing attorneys to commence legal action in a cooperative effort with other New York educational institutions.

Former Animal Shelter Director Gets $98,000 Hempstead Job

Pat Horan, the former director of the Town of Hempstead Animal shelter, has been appointed to a new position within the town.

According to the town, Horan's new title is engineering helper and her salary will be $97,959.

Tanger Kicking Off Free Summer Concert Series

The South Huntington Board of Education has hired David P. Bennardo as the new superintendent of schools.

Bennardo, who will take over July 1 from outgoing Superintendent Thomas Shea, comes to South Huntington from the Harborfields School District, where he has served as principal of Harborfields High School for the past nine years.
