Planning Board Reduces Buffer, Preserves Wetland on Glen Way

The Huntington Planning Board voted on Wednesday to reduce a buffer with homes on the south side of Glen Way and to preserve a plot of wetland on the development.

The Town of Huntington Planning Board voted on Wednesday to reduce the buffer between Glen Way Platt in Cold Spring Harbor and homes bordering the south side from seven feet to five feet.

"This would allow [Glen Way] to put a sprinkler system between the driveway and vegetative buffer which would go a long way to preserving that vegetation," said Rob Riekert, Deputy Director of Planning and Environment for the Town.

The board also voted to preserve a plot of wetland on Glen Way Platt protected by a conservation easement.

The board approved the expansion of a Huntington Station strip mall parking lot into a residential zone, provided that a site plan is submitted and the existing recharge basin between the houses and the parking lot remain. The resolution also requires the strip mall to plant street trees wherever possible in keeping with the Town's revitalization efforts in Huntington Station.

Board member Lynn Healy suggested a minor language clarification on the 2012-2017 Capital Budget preliminary determination, which the board moved to amend.
