NOTICE: 7-Eleven Zoning Board Hearing

A public hearing on the proposed 7-Eleven at Waterside and 25A is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Huntington Zoning Board of Appeals will consider public opinion on a proposed 7-Eleven at the corner of 25A and Waterside in Northport tonight at 6 p.m. in Town Hall.

7-Eleven is requesting that the current Nocello's property zoning be changed to convenience market use or that a use variance be granted for the 10-foot residence buffer, delivery truck parking space length, and minimum parking space requirements. Full details are contained in the .

The request comes on the heels of an Oct. 7 l which claims that new regulations adopted by the town in June unfairly discriminate against convenience stores and will "prevent or hamper 7-Eleven from developing new stores within the town."

At a press conference in October, Huntington Town Board members vowed to fight back and hold their ground on the new regulations, saying that they are meant to address the documented quality of life issues presented by convenience stores, such as increased traffic.

"We continue to stand by the regulations we have passed," Supervisor Frank Petrone said. "We feel they are on solid ground and we've done what is important for the communities. We’re not restricting any of these stores."

There are currently two 7-Elevens in East Northport and one 7-Eleven in Northport. The Laurel Avenue 7-Eleven is a mile away from the proposed location at Nocello's.
