How Should Steve Israel Vote on Syria Attack?

President said he will let Congress debate and vote on military action against the Middle Eastern country, after secretary of state says there is little doubt the regime launched a chemical weapons attack on insurgents.

President Barack Obama this weekend said he will let the U.S. congress decide on whether to attack Syria after an alleged chemical weapons attack by Syrian President Bashar Assad that killed hundreds of children and violated international rules of war.

As Americans are "weary of war," the president said in his Saturday address to the public that putting the decision in the hands of the people's representatives was more in line with the country's democratic ideals.

"I know that the country will be stronger if we take this course, and our actions will be even more effective," he said.

For people living on Long Island's North Shore and Gold Coast, that means Rep. Steve Israel will be responsible for representing their voices in the debate.

Israel, in a statement issued this weekend on his Facebook page, seemed to back launching an attack, but with allies.

"I am concerned that, unless the international community responds in a unified manner, the Assad regime will be emboldened to widen its use of chemical warfare and further destabilize the region and threaten us. That’s why I believe that, together with our international partners and Syria’s neighbors, a surgical and targeted air strike is needed as long as it is limited to degrading Syria’s chemical weapons capabilities and does not involve U.S. ground forces," he said.

Now is the time to tell Israel where you stand. Should he vote in favor of the Syria attack? Vote in our poll above and let us know in the comments.

I hope Steve Israel gets the message that according to this pole 74% say no to US intervention. Remember Steve "We the People". You represent us as a whole, do the right and vote no on what we want, not what you want.

Is he the one asking for the vote and pulling an Obama who this morning said that it wasn't him that specified a red line but everyone else. Israel is backing out of making a decision just like his boss in the Executive Branch.
