Asharoken Notebook: Sea Wall Update; Wire Chopping Mystery

Recent sea wall repairs are evaluated, someone keeps cutting wires on a utility pole, and more notes from the last Board of Trustees meeting.

Sea Wall Update

Asharoken's sea wall has been fighting an ongoing battle against erosion for years. The Army Corps of Engineers completed a large scale rehabilitation of the wall in January, repairing strained portions of the wall with concrete, steel sheet piling, boards, and rocks, as well as large boulders on the seaward side. However, in August has left both the wall and residents vulnerable.

The Army Corps recently revisited the sea wall and has since finished the stairs and laid several hundred feet of new asphalt in the surrounding area, saving the village about $10,000. However, even with all the work being put into the sea wall residents are still concerned about safety. Boards that the Army Core just replaced are already falling off and will be taken down shortly as residents are concerned that they may hurt someone.
