Northport Police Report: DWI, Burglary Arrests; Fortune Telling

Incidents and arrests, July 19-30.

The following incidents and arrests were reported by the Northport Police Department, July 19-30. An arrest does not indicate a conviction as all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A Brooklyn man, 31, was arrested on July 20 and charged with DWI, a broken headlight, and failure to obey a traffic control device. He allegedly exited a village parking lot at night without his headlights on and was stopped by police on Woodbine Avenue who then determined that he was intoxicated with a .16 BAC. He was later released on $100 bail.

A Huntington woman, 51, was arrested July 24 and charged with DWI, DWI-BAC, improper lane use, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. She was allegedly pulled over by police after driving on the double yellow line westbound on Fort Salonga Road. Upon traffic stop, police said she smelled strongly of alcohol, her speech was slurred, her eyes were glassy and bloodshot, she was very unsteady afoot and she performed poorly on several standard field sobriety tests administered. 

Anthony McCarthy, 22, of East Northport was arrested on July 29 and charged with second degree burglary of a home, a class C felony.

Police responded to the report of a man laying under a blanket in Constitution Square. When police arrived, it was determined that he was sleeping.

Two people who were reportedly soliciting reading of fortunes on Main Street were warned that it is a violation of the village ordinance and told to leave.

A hit and run occurred at the intersection of Rutledge and Highland Avenue on July 23. A Camero reportedly left the scene, and a license plate.

Two intoxicated people were found asleep along Main Street on July 25. They refused medical attention and went home.

Someone called the police to report a "suspicious animal" in their yard. It turned out to be a small fox, which ran away when the police arrived.

Police responded to Scudder Avenue for an anonymous report of a white male dancing in the middle of the street on July 26 around 11 p.m. Upon arrival, undersigned located subject sitting in his van. Subject was advised not to dance around in the street for his safety and he agreed to go home.

A man dumped a paper bag and a bunch of napkins from his car window as he drove along Fort Salonga Road and was ticketed for littering.
