Northport Police Report: Knocking Things Over; Peeping Tom

Incidents and arrests, June 26-July 2.

The following arrests and incidents were reported by the Northport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction as all persons are presumed innocent until, and if, proven guilty in a court of law. 

A 20 year old East Northport man was arrested on July 1 and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. 

A 21 year old Northport man was arrested on June 30 around 5 a.m. and charged with two counts of fourth degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Police arrested the man after responding to a call that he was knocking over garbage cans along Main Street. Upon arrival, police allegedly observed him walking away from broken flower pots, garbage cans and trash that was dumped in the street. A wooden bench was also ripped from a business store front and placed in the middle of Main Street. Upon interviewing the man, who admitted "the only thing I did officer was knock over the vases," the police officer observed his hands to be covered in soil. 

A 25-year-old Greenlawn man was arrested on June 27 and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police observed the man leaning into the driver side door his car and make a banging noise. Upon approach, the police officer observed a dollar bill on the center console with crushed blue powder as well as half of a blue pill, which after examination was determined to be a 30mg pill of Oxycodone. A plastic "sniff tube" was also located on the passenger seat with suspected cocaine residue inside. Search incident to a lawful arrest, a clear plastic zip lock containing suspected cocaine residue was recovered from his right jean pocket.

A woman told police that she saw an unknown heavy set white male wearing light-colored clothing looking into her bedroom window on Ward Avenue June 27 around 2 a.m. Police canvassed the area with negative results.

A woman told police two teenagers boarded her boat at the Village Dock on June 29 around 1 a.m. and left when she confronted them. She identified the two teens in Northport Village Park but did not want to pursue the matter any further. A subsequent interview of the youths found that they were both in violation of Northport Village Code regarding curfew and one also unlawfully possessed marijuana. Both were issued appearance tickets.

A man and a woman had fallen asleep on a lawn on Prospect Avenue and were reported unconscious by a caller. When police arrived, both stated that they had been drinking heavily on the prior evening. The man person appeared to be in need of further medical treatment and Northport Rescue transported him to Huntington Hospital. The woman went on the ambulance as a passenger.
