Northport Police Report: Slap Happy at Napper's; 500 Bucks in Change

Incidents, Jan. 3-10.

The following information was taken from the Northport Police Department blotter. Where an arrest is mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

  • Between Dec. 31 and Jan. 3, someone damaged six ground level walkway lights on a path adjacent to the northeast end of Malcolms Landing at a cost of $80 per light.
  • A man called Suffolk Police after allegedly being slapped him in the face by a woman at around 3 a.m. Jan. 5. A squad car brought him to the Northport Police station to register his complaint. Allegedly appearing extremely intoxicated to the point of slurring his words, Northport Police told him to come back when he was sober if he wants to pursue harassment charges. The Suffolk squad car gave him a lift home.
  • Someone reported a dog locked in a '99 Dodge Intrepid on Main Street Jan. 7 and possibly in duress. When police arrived, the car was gone.
  • Two cyclists reported being run off the road by a '92 Chevy pickup with the license plate "STUART" on Ocean Ave. Jan 7. Police later found the driver and his truck at the Northport Post Office.
  • A woman on Soper Avenue reported her daughter missing around midnight on Jan. 7.
  • An attorney called 911 on his client on Jan. 7 after his client allegedly threw a chair at him during a dispute on Woodbine Ave. When police arrived, the man denied throwing the chair, saying he simply moved it out of the way.
  • A man at an adult home on Lisa Drive was angry and called the police after finding his doorknob removed on Jan. 8. The police explained that the knob was broken and would be replaced.
  • A man said he deposited $500 worth of change into an automated counter at a bank on Main Street Jan. 8 and didn't receive receipts reflecting the correct amount. The bank manager told the man that the counter was recently checked and calibrated and that when the final count of the instrument is conducted he will check for any discrepancies.
  • Police put out a Christmas wreath set afire on top of a Church Street sign on Tuesday. A canvass of the area for four male youths seen running from the location was unfruitful.
