Arrests and incidents, July 3-8.

The following arrests and incidents were reported by the Northport Police Department between July 3 and 8. An arrest does not indicate a conviction as all persons are presumed innocent until they are proven guilty in a court of law.

  • A 27-year-old Huntington Station woman was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic needle, resisting arrest, and criminal possession of a controlled substance on Laurel Avenue July 4 around 12:18 a.m. She was allegedly observed sitting in the driver seat of a car with a syringe containing heroin in her right hand and also a black shoe lace that was tied around her left arm. She allegedly refused to exit the vehicle after numerous orders to do so and had to be forcibly removed and refused to place her hands behind her back by putting her hands under her body to prevent the undersigned from handcuffing her. Syringe and shoe lace recovered at scene. Defendant transported to headquarters for processing.

  • Police responded to Woodbine Avenue regarding a report of a possible hit and run accident on July 4. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with both drivers who stated there wasn't an accident. The male driver stated, while in reverse trying to back out of a parking spot, his vehicle's rear bumper just touched the other vehicle's front bumper which was parked behind him in the street. The male driver then stated that the complainant who was standing on the sidewalk started frantically screaming out loud, "I'm calling the police, he's leaving the scene of an accident." Both drivers who had their cars parked at the curb stated the complainant inappropriately called the police and reported an accident. The undersigned interviewed witnesses who were also standing on the sidewalk who stated that the complainant was wrong to call the police as there wasn't an accident. The undersigned warned and admonished the complainant regarding when it is appropriate to call the police and when it is not.
  • A woman told police at headquarters that her mother had taken a walk early in the  morning and had not yet returned. The undersigned responded to the house and spoke to the caller. She stated that her mother had taken a walk this morning while the rest of the family was out. When the family returned they saw the missing at the corner of Elwood Road and Fort Salonga Road and thought nothing of it. After about two hours the family started to get concerned, so they rode around the neighborhood and when they were unable to locate her they responded to the police department. The subject was described as a 65 year old black female about 5'6" and 150 pounds, black hair, glasses, unknown clothing and does not speak english. The subject is in good health. The family responded to Suffolk County Second Precinct to report the incident as a precaution. A local notification was made through Suffolk County Police Department. The family was advised to notify the Northport Police Department if the subject returned. Later that day, Northport Rescue responded to an adult female lost and dehydrated at Bread and Cheese Hollow Road. Undersigned confirmed it was the missing subject. Family notified and responded to St. Catherine's Hospital.
  • A Seaview Terrace landlord told police his tenant was told not to use his barbecue again and did so anyway on July 4. The landlord said he was angry and took his tenant's steak from the barbecue and threw it on the ground which caused a verbal dispute between both parties.

The complainant did Western Union $700 to a location in Puerto Rico, at the instruction of the caller on July 5. Detective Hayes eventually made contact with the son who stated that he was fine and in no danger and that the incident is a scam. SCPD responded to headquarters to handle the incident as the complainant lives in, and the monetary transaction, occurred in their jurisdiction.
