Northport Police Report: Grand Larceny; Criminal Mischief

Arrests and incidents Dec. 14-19.

The following arrests and incidents were taken from the Northport Police Department blotter. Where an arrest is mentioned, all parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. An arrest is only an accusation.

  • Mercedes Wilson, 39, and Andre Ford, 49, both of Jamaica, were arrested on Dec. 15 and charged with fourth degree grand larceny, petty larceny, and possession of burglar tools after allegedly shoplifting from the in Northport.
  • A lost chocolate lab was found turned into the police station on Dec. 14 and later returned to its owner.
  • Village employees removed six assorted dinghies, small vessels, and kayaks with no identification numbers from /Park, one from , and one vessel from the on Dec. 14. The vessels were abandoned and/or in violation of the Village Code, unauthorized use of village property. The vessels have been removed and stored by the Parks Department at secure area at Scudder Beach. An additional four vessels found in violation of the village code have been left at Scudder Beach/Park, pending notification of the last known dinghy permit owners. Another two vessels found in violation of the village code have been left at the Village Park, pending notification of the last known dinghy permit owners. Another three vessels found in violation of the village code have been left at the Steers Beach, pending notification of the last known dinghy permit owners.
  • Police scolded a man after for allegedly attempting to hitch a ride along Ocean Avenue on Dec. 15.
  • Police were advised on Dec. 15 that part of the retaining wall in front of 12 Bayview Avenue is falling down. Upon arrival, they observed parts of the wall dislodged and other parts already broken off and lying on the sidewalk. To prevent pedestrian traffic from getting close to the wall, police set up barricades on the sidewalk. Northport Building Inspector Loary Gunn and Northport Village Administrator Gene Guido were informed.
  • A sailboat was submerged in the harbor approximately 150 yards north of the Scudder Park gazebo on Dec. 16. No numbers could not be observed on the vessel. Police notified Huntington Harbor Master Ryan Sammis.
  • Someone damaged Christmas decorations worth about $150 in front of a Bluff Point Road home on Dec. 16. The resident has security cameras but the people doing the damage and the vehicle they arrived in are not viewable because flood lights were aimed directly into the camera.
  • A taxi dropped off a reportedly intoxicated man on Main Street on Dec. 17 who had a minor cut on the left side of his face. Northport Rescue was treating the man when police arrived. The subject declined any need for assistance and was transported to his residence without incident.
  • Another cab driver had difficulty awakening a reportedly intoxicated man in his cab on Dec. 18 on his way to Church Street. Upon arrival, police were able to wake the man and assisted him into his house with his father.
  • Police received another hitchhiking report from Ocean Avenue on Dec. 19. The man, described as approximately 30 years old, was gone when police arrived.
  • On Dec. 19, a boy, approximately 19-years-old, allegedly asked a man on Main Street if he could borrow his iPhone and never returned. Police checked the area but the boy was gone.
  • Someone allegedly keyed both sides of someone's 2012 VW Jetta on Laurel Avenue sometime between Dec. 18 and 19.
