Douglas Caldwell, 47, died Friday from injuries suffered in Hauppaugue crash.

Douglas Caldwell, who was critically injured after he lost control of his car in Hauppauge on March 10, died of his injuries at Stony Brook University Hospital at 12:37 a.m. Friday, say Suffolk Police.

Caldwell, 47, lived on Layne Way in Northport. Witnesses reported seeing a 2005 Nissan traveling eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge at 4:10 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle lost control and entered the center divider.

The vehicle struck a tree, overturned and crashed. Officers and witnesses attempted to pull Caldwell out of the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. Firefighters from the Commack Fire Department responded and pulled him from the car.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
