New Commissioner for East Northport Fire District

Ex-Chief Wayne Kaifler, Sr. will replace outgoing Commissioner Charles Warringer, Jr. at the beginning of the year.

Ex-Chief Wayne Kaifler, Sr. will replace Charles Warringer, Jr. as the East Northport Fire District Commissioner on Jan. 1 after winning 373 to 221. The five-year term will run through January 2016.

"I have served our department proudly for 28 years," Kaifler said in a statement. "During this time I had the honor of rising through the ranks of Line Officer and the privilege of serving as Chief of the Department in 2001 and 2002. Additionally, I had the opportunity to work closely with the District and many Board Members throughout my tenure. I believe this experience will afford the citizens of our community with sound and reasonable judgment."

Kaifler has lived in East Northport for 55 years, graduated from in 1973, and has spent most of his career in the asphalt paving business. He and his wife of 35 years, Patti, have three children: Matthew, Erica, and Wayne Jr., current second assistant chief of the East Northport Fire Department.

"I understand the needs of our community; and as a taxpayer during these tough economic times, I certainly understand the need to balance a reasonable budget. Through perseverance and dedication, I intend to provide our community with the best Fire and EMS protection available," he said.

Outgoing Commissioner Charles Warringer, Jr. served two five-year terms as the vice chairperson and chairperson of the board. He is a 31-year member of the , 56-year resident of East Northport, and owner of Chuck's Refrigerator and Appliance Repair.

During his tenure, Warringer was part of a board that installed a more efficient heating system at headquarters using a $40,000 state grant and saving taxpayers' money, installed a new antenna, and increased storage by installing a new substation at Clay Pitts Road.

Commissioner Brian Gorman ran uncontested for one open seat and will keep his position.

Greenlawn Water District Commissioner William Wieck will also keep his seat and begin his third term after defeating challenger John Clark.
