Crimes Nearby: Huntington Man Arrested in Home Invasion Plot

Police officials in Nassau and Suffolk counties issues the following recent crime reports. Arrest information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Huntington

Two men plotting to invade an alleged heroin dealer's home in Farmingville were arrested Tuesday, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota. The dealer, a Farmingville man, was also arrested.

Lonnie Walker, 29, of Farmingville, was charged with fourth degree possession of a controlled substance (heroin), according to Spota. It was his home that was going to be invaded prior to the arrests of Joshua A. Whitfield, 26, of Huntington and Seyquan Patron, 24, of Mastic Beach. 

According to the district attorney’s office, law enforcement believes Patron is a member of the Bloods street gang. Whitfield and Patron face attempted burglary and weapons charges and are being held at the Suffolk County jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.

Spota had video surveillance of one of the would-be home invaders shopping for a pair of gloves in preparation for the burglary, both men - recorded on a camera hidden in the dashboard - traveling to the target’s house and the police takedown of the home invasion crew.

Detectives found 140 decks of heroin during a search of Walker’s condo and a Taurus .357 Magnum revolver recovered from the vehicle transporting Whitfield and Patron to the planned home invasion, Spota said.

Officials at are taking precautions to protect students as police investigate a recent flashing incident involving two female students.

A public address announcement was made last week warning students to take precautions. 

"Recently there has been a man between the ages of 20 to 40, white and 5'8" to 5'11" in height who has been near or about the school posing a potential threat to students, especially young women. The police have been called last week," according to the statement. "Last evening this man or another man exposed himself to two young women at approximately 4 p.m. near the mall.

Students were urged by school officials to alert security or staff members if they witness strangers on or near the campus and to use escorts in certain areas.

Commack

A man stole merchandise from in Commack last month, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, a man wearing a blue hoodie and shorts took several unspecified items from the store, located at 6350 Jerico Tpke., at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14.

The suspect, who police describe as a tall, white man standing approximately 6 ft. 5 in., fled eastbound on Jericho Turnpike in a white Ford pickup truck, police said.

Bethpage

police have accused a Levittown man of attempted robbery in Bethpage after the suspect brandished a pistol in his belt.

Eighth Squad detectives charged Albert Garfield, 45, of 12 Hunter Lane, Levittown on Wednesday night.

According to police, Garfield approached a man, 46, at the Mobil Gas Station on Hempstead Turnpike just before 8:30 p.m. and demanded a dollar. When the victim refused, the defendant told him he was a cop and opened his jacket displaying a pistol tucked into his waistband.

When the victim still didn't comply, Garfield walked away, driving off in a Ford Expedition.

About two and a half hours later, a witness called 911 after observing Garfield display his gun in his waistband while on South Broadway at Hazel Street in Hicksville.

Police responded to the scene and arrested Garfield. The handgun was recovered in his vehicle, police said.

An additional investigation revealed that Garfield had cocaine, crack and 800mg ibuprofen pills with him, police said.

Garfield is charged with second-degree robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal impersonation and drug possession charges.

Massapequa

A Nassau County police officer was seriously injured in a crash after chasing a suspicious vehicle on the Southern State Parkway Monday Afternoon, police said.

The officer, who wasn't identified, was pursuing a gray Honda Accord fleeing North Massapequa at about 12:30 p.m.

Homeowners in the area of North Pine Street and South Park Drive called 911 after seeing the car in the neighborhood where there have been 10 to 14 burglaries in the last month, according to Nassau Police Det. Lt. Kevin Smith.

The officer followed the vehicle to Linden Street and onto the eastbound side of the Southern Parkway at the Bethpage State Parkway entrance.

Witnesses told police that the suspicious car took dangerous maneuvers and was traveling at a high rate of speed as it headed east towards Route 110.

The car, which witnesses said had been speeding, switched lanes several times in an effort to shake the officer.

Then it slowed down suddenly. "They really pounded on the brakes, almost coming to a complete stop," Smith said.

The officer tried to avoid hitting the car from behind and swerved to the right, hitting a guard rail.

It "propelled the police car back into traffic where it was struck by another car," Smith said.

The officer's car came to a rest under the Route 110 overpass of the parkway. She was quickly airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center, where she was listed in serious but stable condition.

he driver and passenger of the other vehicle were not hurt.

The injured officer was in intensive care with head, neck and shoulder injuries and was in and out of consciousness, Smith said.
