Elwood-John H. Glenn High School has received a Reward School Dissemination Grant from the New York State Education Department in the amount of $75,000. The high school was eligible to apply for the grant based on being named a Reward School by the state for the previous two years, a distinction given to those schools with outstanding student achievement or growth over the past three years.
The grant money will be used by the district to refine and enhance the school’s own best practices, including devoting a portion of the funds to professional development for staff. In addition, the grant will allow the district an opportunity to share its practices with lower-performing schools throughout the state.
As part of the grant opportunity, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Gary Furman and Elwood-John H. Glenn High School Principal Dr. Vincent Mulieri traveled to Albany in early May to present to their peers on what the high school has done for interventions in English language arts and math. “It was a wonderful opportunity to share our best practices with other districts throughout the state,” said Dr. Mulieri. “In addition, we were able to hear what other districts have done to assist students.”

“We are excited to take advantage of this grant and become a model school,” added Dr. Furman. “The program offered to students at Glenn is extensive. Not only do we offer a challenging academic program to our students, but we also support their social and emotional development through a variety of programs and services. This grant serves as recognition that we are on the right track and succeeding in our efforts.”
