Sandy No Match for Little Tigers

Northport Youth Football Club

Like everything else in the region, Northport Youth Football was put on hold so that everyone could begin the recovery from Hurricane Sandy. After hunkering down for the past week - many without power for most or all of the time - the young Tigers were eager to get outside and toss around the pigskin.  So on a sunny and cold Sunday morning, more than 60 players from all age groups of the Northport Youth Football Club gathered at East Northport Middle School for a few games of touch football. The boys were very excited to see some of their team mates an soon the sounds of laughter were echoing throughout the fields. With some of the coaches and parents getting into the action, there were three exciting and fun filled games that proved to be a nice escape from the unfortunate events of the prior week.  The play books were emptied with flea flickers, double reverses and statue of liberty plays sprinkled in around long throws, catches, and runs.Watching from the sidelines, many parents shared their storm stories and hints on where to find gas and other necessities.  One mom was nice enough to bring cookies (including some freshly baked) for the boys to enjoy after the games. All in all it was another great day for the Northport Youth Football Club and another example of how the camaraderie of football goes beyond what happens during the games between the lines on the field.
