No Pedestrian Injuries in a Year for Northport

Village awarded AAA's top Platinum Award for traffic safety program.

Northport was recently named one of the safest areas in the region for motorists and pedestrians by AAA.

In the past year, Northport recorded no pedestrian injuries and a 97 percent seatbelt usage rate over the past year. Its successful traffic safety programs include its Bicycle Safety Initiative, school presentations on pedestrian safety and the STOP-DWI Program. The Village also received a Pedestrian Safety Citation for having four consecutive years without a pedestrian fatality.

The Village received AAA’s top Platinum Award for the effectiveness of its traffic safety program Oct. 10 during a luncheon ceremony at The Carltun in East Meadow. Northport was one of seven to receive the award in AAA’s annual Community Traffic Safety Awards Program, which recognizes communities for their efforts to make the region’s roadways safer for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
