Northport High School Security To Be Stepped Up Monday Following Threat

Precautionary safety measures will be taken Monday at in response to a threatening message written on a boys bathroom wall.

The message reportedly related to revenge for the   in December.

High school principal Irene McLaughlin notified parents by telephone Friday night at 7:30 in a recorded message that an important letter was on the high school web site.

The letter, signed by McLaughlin as well as the four assistnat principals, said that students reported the threatening message that had been written on the wall of the boys bathroom in the "L" wing.

"The Suffolk County Police Department has been alerted to this threat and continues to investigate its merits," the letter read. "Precautionary measures will be put into place to insure the safety of all students and staff."

Those measures include requiring all students to enter the building through the main entrance on Laurel Hill Road Monday morning and the campus will be closed for the day. Additionally, an increased security presence will be in place in and around the high school.

All regularly scheduled school activities will continue as planned.

"The measures we are taking are precautionary in nature and not meant to alarm anyone," the letter concluded. "The safety of our students remains paramount, so please understand that we will continue to cooperate with the police and enforce these precautionary measures as necessary."
