President's Day: What's Open, What's Closed Around Northport.

Happy Birthday George Washington! The first President of the United States has been officially remembered every third Monday in February since 1971, though President's Day was originally celebrated on Washington's actual birthday of Feb. 22 when it first became a federal holiday in 1879. Here's what's open and what's closed on this President's Day around Northport:

Garbage Pick Up: No Pick up in Northport, East Northport/Elwood/Eaton's Neck, or Asharoken.

Government Offices: Huntington Town Hall, Northport Village Hall, Asharoken Village Hall all closed.

Libraries: Closed

Trains: The MTA Long Island Rail Road will operate on a holiday schedule on Presidents' Day, Monday, February 20. In addition, nine extra trains, four westbound and five eastbound, will operate on the Ronkonkoma and Port Washington branches. Cars will also be added to selected trains.Off-peak fares will be in effect all day.

Banks: Closed
