Closing the Gas Station Cash/Credit Gap [Poll]

Proposed legislation targets owners that charge up to $2 difference without giving customers fair warning.

State Senator Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) proposed a bill last week targeting gas station owners who charge up to a $2 difference between chash and credit prices at the pump without fair warning.

Under the proposed law, gas station owners who do not display the higher price on a visible street-level sign would face a $500 fine for their first violation, and a $1,000 fine for their second violation. On the third violation, gas station owners would be forced to shutdown for 10 days or until they comply with signage requirements, whichever is later, according to .

Such a law would have done Liz McRae a favor had it existed. McRae pulled into the on Larkfield and Clay Pitts last week and jumped at the $2 gap between cash and credit-- $3.99 or $5.99. "Thankfully I had cash!" she said via Twitter.
