Northport To Apply For Downtown Revitalization Grant

One informational booth and two kiosks proposed.

Northport Village, in conjunction with the Northport Chamber of Commerce, is applying for a piece of Suffolk County's downtown revitalization grant.

Northport's application would seek funding for material costs for a roughly 7 by 10 foot booth and two informational kiosks. Both structures would provide information about arts and culture and business in downtown Northport.

The booth would be large enough to accommodate a staff member and could be placed somewhere along lower Main Street. The two unmanned informational kiosks could be placed along walkable parts of 25A.

Northport Historical Society Board of Trustees President Stephen King drew up the plans in 2007. Images are attached.

Northport Deputy Mayor Henry Tobin, Chamber President Deb Triola, and Northport Arts Coalition liaison Dan Paige met with the county on Friday to discuss the proposal.

"This is an opportunity for all organizations in the village to present themselves to the public in another form, not only when they have events, but year round," said Tobin. "It works wonderfully in other communities and would be a great addition to Northport."

The village is applying for a portion of $250,000 total available in grants.

Tobin said the village is open to suggestions. The applications is due by June 14.
