Jan. 31: Coaches vs. Cancer; Current Events Presentation

Five things to know or do in the community.

Hello and welcome to the Tuesday edition of "The Daily Five," a rundown of things to know or do in the community.

1. Weather: Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. West wind between 10 and 13 mph.

2. Coaches vs. Cancer: The Northport High School girls junior varsity basketball team will join the varsity team in a doubleheader continuation of Coaches vs. Cancer against Whitman in an away game. The JV team will begin play at 4 p.m., the varsity team will begin play at 6:15 p.m. On the same night, the boys basketball team will also be playing a Coaches vs. Cancer game against Whitman on home turf at Northport High School at 6 p.m.

3. Current Events in Perspective: Michael Libresco-D’Innocenzo, professor of history at Hofstra University, will begin a new series of Current Events in Perspective in January. Join him to explore significant national and international developments. All attending the program are welcome to share their views. No registration required. , 7:30 p.m.
