Get Out! Northport's Weekend Planner: Oct. 5-7

A rundown of things to do around Northport this Columbus Day weekend.

19th Annual Long Island Fall Festival: It’s that time of year again! The 19th Annual Long Island Fall Festival, the area’s most anticipated community event, will be held Friday, October 5 through Monday, October 8 at Heckscher Park in Huntington. The festival is the largest event of its kind in the northeast and will feature fun-filled festivities for the whole family including three stages of entertainment providing live music performances throughout the weekend, a world-class carnival, hundreds of arts and craft, promotional, retail and not-for-profit vendors, two international food courts, a farmer’s market and numerous activities designed especially for young children. Fri Oct. 5 from 3-10pm, Sat Oct 6 from 11am-10pm, Sun Oct 7 from 11am-10pm and Mon Oct 8 from 11am-5pm.

Northport Football: The Nothport Tigers will battle Sachem in a home game at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Opera Night in Northport: This large body of professional operatic singers plus their piano accompanist will present an entertaining assortment of vocal excerpts from famous and beloved operas. This group has a large following in the Northport area, so this promises to be an entertaining afternoon for opera lovers and newcomers to opera as well. Friday at 8 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Fall Family Fun Day: Families are invited to celebrate autumn with a variety of old-fashioned games and activities on the front lawn of Northport Historical Society's museum. The event costs $5 per family for Northport Historical Society members and $10 per family for non-members. Light seasonal refreshments will be served. In the event of inclement weather, all activities will be moved inside the Society's museum. Saturday 12-2 p.m.

Northport Farmers Market: Located at the foot of Main Street at Cow Harbor Parking Lot at the harbor in Northport Village, the Market will include fresh vegetables and fruit from Long Island farmers, fresh fish, grass fed meats, eggs, gourmet foods, fresh pasta, cheese and pickles, baked goods, gluten free chocolates and cookies, jams, jellies and tapenades, oils, sauces and vinegars, micro brewed beer, handmade soaps, and scrubs, fresh cut flowers, potted plants, perennials and annuals, herbs, treats for your pets, and music for your entertainment. 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Long Island Accordion Night: Soprano vocalist Connie Shakalis and accordionist Dominic Karcic will perform favorites from Broadway, opera, and jazz. The Long Island Accordion Alliance meets at La Villini every first Tuesday evening of each month. Sunday 7 p.m. at La Villini Restaurant.

Live Music at Skippers: Anthony Romano will play live rock and roll covers at Skipper's Pub on Monday night.
