First Ever Northport 'Cash Mob'

Shoppers will rush a downtown business on Tuesday.

One downtown business will get a deluge of cash on Tuesday in the first ever Northport "Cash Mob" sponsored by the Northport Chamber of Commerce.

A cash mob is a concentrated effort to encourage people to go into a small local business on a designated day and time and spend their money, en masse, to give the business owner a bit of economic stimulus. Huntington Chamber of Commerce conducted one at Value Drug with great success earlier this year. See video of the event here.

The mob meets at Main Street Cafe for drinks and hors d'oeuvre at 4 p.m. The Chamber will then announce the business to be mobbed with each person required to spend at least $20. Following the mobbing, everyone will meet at Gunther's Tap Room for drink specials. A PDF of the flyer with details is attached.

Northport Chamber of Commerce President Flemming Hansen said cash mobs are a fun way to stimulate the downtown economy while providing a great networking opportunity. He hopes to continue the mobbings regularly at different businesses if Tuesday's innaugural event is a success.
