Architectural Review Board Approves Two New Biz Signs

Harbor Design Group is moving and North Shore Canvas is moving in.

is moving across Fort Salonga Road from its current location.

The four-year-old shop will take over the spot at number 791, where Meadowsweet is currently located, when that store moves further east to its new location two doors down at 795 in April.

Owner Richard Gianatasio obtained approval from the Architectectural Historic Review Board Wednesday for a new sign and awning with the store name and subhead: Kitchens and Fine Cabinetry for Every Room.

The sign will be 101 inches high and 98.5 inches wide and will be backlit. It will mimic the current location's sign in the color scheme, white with blue, and font. The sign will be set back ten feet from the property line.

The owner of  new Northport store, North Shore Canvas, Inc., Peter Eggerman also obtained approval from the 'Archies' board for his sign that on his new business location to be shared with .

Eggerman said that he started the business out of his home but as it grew, discovered he needed more space. "Then this opportunity came up," to share showroom space with Oliva Tile, he said.

The board members noted that if the owner of Oliva tile wished to replace its sign, a new application would have to be filed.
They also told him that phone numbers and web site addresses are not allowed on signs, as per the Northport Village Code.

Or, at least, that's the way the board interprets the code as it pertains to web site addresses, members said.

The North Shore Canvas sign will be a freestanding eight-foot by four-foot double-faced sign and will be illuminated from behind. It will be two-sided so traffic heading both east and west on Fort Salonga Road will be able to read it.

Eggerman specializes in marine canvas and makes canvas covers for all types of boats, but "mostly powerboats" he said. He also does the canvas portion of awnings. "We don't do the structural portion or the welding," he said.
