Mickey Hart is best known for his nearly three decades as an integral part of an extraordinary expedition into the soul and spirit of music, disguised as the rock and roll band the Grateful Dead. Saturday, 8 p.m.

Students, Not Scores Protest

Join Dr. Joseph Rella, Superintendent of Comsewogue Public Schools, to Rally for students. LEARNING IS MORE THAN A TEST SCORE. 565 Bicycle Path. Port Jefferson Station, Saturday at noon. 

Cinema Arts Centre 48-Hour Filmmaking Contest
Filmmaking teams have just one weekend to make a short film. Filmmakers don’t know what genre (thriller/romance etc) they will be shooting until the start of the competition. All creativity: writing, shooting, editing and adding a musical soundtrack, must occur within the 48 hour window beginning Friday evening at 7pm and ending Sunday at 7pm. Prize is $200.

Ballroom with a Twist Studio Trip
$175 per person. Package includes: Dinner, Transportation, Ticket to Show, and after party. Ballroom on the Bay, Friday. Dinner at 5. Limo bus at 6:30 p.m.

Natural History Walk at Jones Beach State Park
Look for all types of insects, including moths, late summer stray butterflies, and early migrant dragonflies. Saturday at 9 a.m. at boat basin by the Coast Guard Station.

Summer sunset student string show
On Saturday from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the band shell in the Northport Village waterfront park, members of the Northport High School String Quartet and the HAAM string trio, with special guest Matthew Pierce, will perform works of chamber music by composers such as Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Grieg, as well as original compositions. 

Bingo Night in Northport
Bingo at St. Philip Neri's parish center. 6 Games with prize money totaling $1000. Friday, 7:30 p.m.
