Thursday, Jan. 27: Schools Are Closed, JFK Is Closed, LIRR Trains are Suspended

The National Weather Service forecasted snow all night and it appears it was right on. The plows were out all night but a lot of snow fell and the roads are not all ready for driving. If you do not need to go out, it's probably best to stay home.

Here are five more 'good-to-know' items for today:

  1. has posted the contingency plan schedule for mid-term testing on Jan. 27. 's revised schedule is attached in available on its Web site. The Elwood Board of Education workshop scheduled for tonight has been cancelled, as well.
  2. The has postponed service from Port Jefferson to Huntington until further notice and JFK Airport is closed until further notice. It is expected to reopen at 10 a.m.
  3. Huntington Town Hall is closed until 10:30 a.m. Additionally, all HART Paratransit service is cancelled for today. Fixed-Route service start will be delayed until 8 a.m.
  4. The repaired Asharoken seawall ribbon cutting scheduled for this morning has been delayed or cancelled.
  5. The 'Senior Social' scheduled for this Thursday, Jan. 27 at has been moved to Friday, Jan.28th from 10 am to noon.
