Clowning Around at Elwood Public Library

Youngsters dig into reading during summer library program

The Elwood Public Library recently held a juggling and comedy show, as part of its summer reading program.

Each year, participating libraries run programs to encourage children to read over the summer vacation.  This year’s theme is “Dig Into Reading.”

Hundreds of students from the Elwood community from toddlers to high-school students participated in the program. Younger summer readers enjoyed the “Grins and Grins” Show to celebrate competing the program.

Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern (D-Huntington) paid a visit to the recent juggling and comedy show.

“The summer reading program is a fun and exciting way to encourage children to continue to enjoy reading over the summer months,” Stern said.  “The skills children acquire by reading will help them succeed not only in school and  later in life, but also help create a life-long love of reading and learning that will bring them enjoyment their whole lives.”
