A 'ModernAge' Prelude to Cow Harbor Day

Can't wait for Sunday? Check out a Saturday concert with the "ModernAge" Band in the lead up to the main event.

Good news for anyone in the "moo-d" for a little celebrating: you don’t have to wait until Sunday. According to Cow Harbor Day Chair Ken Savin, there’ll be a concert in the come Saturday night.

Michael Backes, who thrilled audiences with his gift for song in the ’s production of Rent, will be performing with the ModernAge Band from 8 to 10 p.m.

“Michael Backes was in Jersey Boys in Vegas, and did the national tour of Rock of Ages,” Savin said, adding Backes does a little bit of Frank Sinatra, Billy Joel, Frankie Valli, and more.

“This guy is phenomenal and he’s bringing a guest Broadway star with him,” said Savin, who’s always one for surprises.

On Sunday, as the parade draws to an end around 1:15 p.m., there’ll be plenty of things for families to do around town.

In addition to the merchant sidewalk sales lining Main Street, there’ll be 70 vendors in the selling crafts, handmade jewelry, fine art, photographs and more.

Familiar faces in the Village Park will include , known for her strikingly-colored paintings of Northport and Long Island landmarks, beaches, and lighthouses. Photographer , whose images run the gamut from nautical scenes and Long Island landmarks to endearing shots of wildlife and close-ups of flowers, will also have a booth. As visitors browse, they’ll be serenaded by local rock group, “Crisis,” who’ll be performing in the bandstand.

For that down-home feeling, there’ll also be a Dixieland band at the foot of Main Street. As in the past, the parking lot opposite will feature rides and games from Newton’s Shows of East Northport. The Kiwanis will be dishing up food in the parking lot by the dock.
