Familiar with Yelp.com? They provide user reviews and recommendations of top restaurants, shopping, nightlife, entertainment, services and more. However, is their rating system justified?
If you are a business owner, I am sure you get bombarded with calls and brochures from an array of marketing companies. So who should you use? Or better yet, who should you stay away from in this sector? That answer is easy... Stay away from Yelp.com. I did my due diligence and Yelp was the one company that kept showing up with complaints from various business owners. It seems as though thousands of business owners are very unhappy with Yelp's review and filtering systems. A local merchant in East Northport had 15 positive ratings, and 2 negative ratings. Once she decided to end her relationship with Yelp, all of her positive reviews were filtered and only the two negative reviews remained! Her business went from 4.5 stars to 1.5 stars. Who gives Yelp the right to dictate the reputation of a business? Business owners have enough on their plate to have to deal with disgraceful tactics.

We reached out via email to YelpNYC and Yelp Long Island and received a templated response. They will not reverse this merchants filtered 15 positive ratings, therefore, the merchants reputation has taken a major hit.
