Bites Nearby: Robke's Country Inn

Each week, Northport Patch picks a local restaurant you should be sure to check out.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Northport Patch will pick a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Robke's is a family-owned restaurant that doesn't pretend to be more than a great place to eat terrific Italian-style meals. Throw in a  full bar, a $10 lunch menu (till 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday) and you've got a bustling, busy, see-and-be-seen place. Robke's doesn't really need an endorsement from anyone — in fact owner Louis Selvaggio said "no publicity!" — and I have eaten there many times and it is almost always busy. The parking lot can be crazy.

I usually order the Sole Francaise but there are dozens of other great entree choices and daily specials. Robke's  menu lists so many interesting entrees, it is hard to choose just one. Take a group with you so you can sample a selection. One more thing, I usually drink wine or beer at Robke's but the other day I had a diet soda and was thrilled with the 'huge-mongous' glass in which it came. It wasn't two sips and gone.

Reservations not required but suggested for parties of eight or more.  Open daily for lunch and dinner. Prices: $10 to $35 for entrees.
