Review Set on Impact of U.S. Government Shutdown

Board votes to review impact of federal government's shutdown, possible default.

The Town Board voted Tuesday night to ask the comptroller and town attorney to assess the financial impact the federal government shutdown and possible default.

After a short debate, the board voted 3-2 for the review; Councilmen Mark Mayoka and Gene Cook voted against it. Town Supervisor Frank Petrone urged the review, saying the town is owed millions of dollars from FEMA for Sandy and other costs.

"We've been using town dollars; all of a sudden we could have a cash flow problem," Petrone said. "We don't have a piggy bank. One alternative is to borrow, which is going to cost us." That move, however, could be months away, Petrone said.
