Northport Soccer Tourney Draws Crowds, Cosmos Players

The Northport Cow Harbor United Soccer Club teamed up with the Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund to raise awareness and to donate money to breast cancer research.

Soccer came to town this past weekend in Northport as the northeast's largest soccer tournament set up residence throughout Northport and Huntington drawing teams from around the region and even some Cosmo greats who were on hand for autograph signing.

This was the second year the Northport Cow Harbor United Soccer Club teamed up with the Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund to raise awareness among the youth in the program and to donate money to breast cancer research.

The tournament, which features 380 teams including boys and girls divisions from U07 to High School, took place Sat. and Sun.

Jennifer McGraw who heads up media relations for the tournament said they were on track to exceed last year's fundraising total of $32,000.

"This is the second time we are donating money for breast cancer research," said McGraw. "The fundraising won't close out until the end of the week, but we are on track to raise about $35,000."

Many of the players wore pink socks and had their hair dyed pink for the games.

Two top scoring players, Paulo Mendes and Diomar Diaz, from the New York Cosmos were there on Sunday afternoon to sign autographs and take pictures.
