Scores of cancer survivors and local volunteers will soon sport purple and white t-shirts and walk for hours around a track to raise money for cancer research in one of the most iconic fundraisers in the country.

The American Cancer Society will hold relays at both Northport High School and Elwood-John Glenn High School on Saturday, June 1 at 6 p.m. Check out Northport's Relay page and Elwood's Relay page for more information, to sign up, or to donate.

Relay For Life events happen in thousands of places across the country, and feature an overnight relay that both raises money for the cause and honors local cancer survivors.

Are you planning to walk? Patch would love to help you share photos or experiences from the event so we can capture the full impact of the relay in town.

The easiest way is to just visit The Boards, and upload photos and sentiments there. Want to thank a local volunteer, cheer on a teammate or share a great photo of the opening ceremony, the luminaria ceremony or the walk itself? Post them right there for the entire community to celebrate.
