Elwood-John Glenn High School was constructed in 1962 for less than $1 million and named for the NASA astronaut whose…More flight around the earth took place during the construction of the school. Its first senior class of 72 students graduated in June 1963.</p> <p>A bond referendum was approved in 2004 to not only renovate the high school and bring the facility up to American Disability Act standards, but also redesigned and refurbished the grounds and athletic fields. <br /><br />The district also recently embarked on a complete renovation of the technology available to students, faculty and staff. Some of these changes included computers in every classroom and new computer labs with printers.</p> <p>Since 2004, the district has also expanded course offerings to included honors level courses, expanded elective course opportunities, introduced a new full-time science research program with an introduction to science research class, restructured our Foreign Language program, added an adventure education program, developed a research writing student handbook, realigned curriculums, and expanded the business and art course offerings.</p> <p> </p>

This is…More the only middle school in the district and it is located on the same campus as both the high school, called Elwood-John Glenn, and the district's administrative offices.</p> <p>Sixth grade instruction includes the basic skills of language arts, reading, mathematics, social studies, and science. Other subjects include physical education, art, music, study skills, health, technology and careers. Four fully-networked IBM computers are located in each grade classroom to assist with the integration of curriculum materials and to provide additional instructional support.</p> <p>In seventh grade, a strong academic program is enhanced by acceleration opportunities in science and mathematics. Foreign language instruction is introduced. Every seventh grader participates in general music, band, orchestra, or chorus. A special, intensive 10-week writing course, "Authors' Workshop," is offered to all seventh graders to enhance their communication skills.</p> <p>Eighth graders add health instruction to their curriculum, to help them understand and cope with many critical topics. </p>
