The Northport Historical Society has been collecting, preserving and telling the stories of the people of Northport…More since 1962, when a small group of civic-minded residents formed the group.
Since that time, the organization has played a vital role in the preservation and presentation of the community's historically rich heritage. And, with the generosity of the Cavagnaro family, the Society found a permanent home in 1974 and created the museum in the former 1914 Carnegie library, listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The Society produces numerous, rotating exhibits on topics of local interest and in different media in conjunction with the permanent exhibit – an overview of the community's development from habitation by the Matinecock Indians to the present.
