Civil rights suit by parent accuses Superintendent McDermott, Principal Irene McLaughlin of Inaction; district attorney denies charges.

Parents of a Northport High School student filed a lawsuit against the school earlier this week alleging that officials did not do enough to stop anti-Semitic bullying against their son after it was reported. On Tuesday evening, the Northport BOE officially retained attorney Adam Kleinberg, of Sokoloff Stern to defend Superintendent Marylou McDermott and Northport High School Principal Irene McLaughlin in a civil action suit filed by Manhattan attorney Chaim Book on behalf of East Northport parent Robert Slade and his son. The complaint alleges "severe, persistent, and violent harassment" that the former ninth grader endured between November 2010 and June 2011, consisting of "some of the most hate-filled, anti-Semitic slurs imaginable." To the dad of three: Dad of Three 12:47 am on Sunday, May 20, 2012 N'ptr's statement of "McLaughlin is in so deep over her head that anyone could do a more respectable job." seems totally baseless and a really cheap shot. Well Dad of three you haven't got a clue what this woman is like behind closed doors. I can honestly tell you that she lied to me. She doesn't play fair and she certainly doesn'…   more ›

Guess I misread that part. I interpreted the reduction of that fund by $100k as a concession to pay the UTN President's salary. I understand your point on taking away from teacher development, but it was also my understanding that the Superintendent already controlled that expense very tightly.   more ›

That sounds very intelligent and thoroughly responsible. Mr Fusaro is right to cite the Triborough Amendment as one of the most unnecessary, and cost-creating, impediments for NY school districts, and Mr Ciccone was wise to address the need for greater efficiencies. Albany, over the past few decades, has continued to increase costs for districts, with more and more mandates that are either …   more ›

For those taxpayers who desire unnecessarily higher and higher real estate taxes they should vote to re-elect Mr. Waldenburg and Ms. McNaughton as they have overtaxed the residents by approximately $40 million over the past four years (assuming this years budget passes). Most first year accounting students can prepare a budget if you give them an extra $10 million a year to play with.   more ›
