This public nine-hole golf course, a par 34, is located on the grounds of the Veteran's Affairs Hospital in Northport. It has been operating since before 1947. It offers discounts for veterans, seniors and juniors. Soft spikes are required to play the nine-hole course, and players must have their own bags and at least five clubs. It is run for the VA by Global Golf Maintenance. The manager is Ron Helkowski. A hand cart rents for $3, a power cart rents for $20 and reservations cost $2 per person. It takes about two hours to play the course. A sign in the rental shop says it all: "You don't have to be good. You do have to be fast. Play ready golf." Weekday fees are as follows: Vets with a hospital ID, $11; seniors, $12; VA employees, $14; the general public, $16. Fees for juniors (ages 9 to 15 years), $14. This age group may play after 9am and must be with an adult. On weekends and holidays, fees are: Vets with hospital ID, $16; VA employees, $17; all others, $19. The season and hours are weather-dependent, but it is generally open from March 15 until December 15. Packaged snacks, candy, water and soda are available in the shop.
