Festival; Rock 'n' Roll Nights Return

A look at upcoming events and activities this weekend.

East Northport Festival
The East Northport Chamber of Commerce’s annual Festival will take place Sept. 6 through Sept. 8 at John Walsh Park. Residents will get to enjoy magic shows, sidewalk sales, exhibits, craft vendors, great food, petting zoo, bicycle stunt shows, amusement rides and games, live entertainment, street performers and more.

Opera Night in Northport 
Head down to St. Paul's United Methodist Church (270 Main St.) Friday at 8 p.m. for Opera Night. A $10 donation is requested.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Returns to the Vanderbilt Planetarium
On Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m., the Vanderbilt Planetarium (180 Little Neck Rd., Centerport) will premier two new, breathtaking, full-dome, rock music shows – classic and alternative – on the 60-foot dome of the newly renovated and technologically updated William and Mollie Rogers Theater. 
Some of the bands for the alternative rock show include Nine Inch Nails, Beck, 311, Daft Punk, Radiohead, Muse and Smashing Pumpkins. Among those on the classic rock show lineup are Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, U2, Aerosmith, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and The Doors.

Blood Drive
The East Northport Fire Department will host a blood drive Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the fire department headquarters (1 Ninth Ave., East Northport). One donation can help save up to three lives.

Five-Mile Run 
The five-mile “Run for the Many” will set off from Flower Hill Elementary School  in Huntington at 8:30 a.m. It is sponosred by the “We Are Many Foundation” which helps, heals, and educates society concerning children who have been sexually abused.

Huntington Awareness Day

The fourth annual Huntington Awareness Day parade steps off Saturday and has added more attractions and salutes to residents. Bands, floats, service groups, vintage cars and merchants will participate in the march, which will wind north on New York Avenue from 15th Street and end in the municipal parking lot between Railroad and Church Streets. The fair will include performances by local artists and booths offering crafts and services.

Added to the day’s lineup is  Corky Nightingale's Woof, Wag and Walk Fashion Show, a parade-within-the-parade that highlights canine diversity. Canine "Super Models"  with their owners show off outfits. 

The parade and fair run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Walk for Alzheimer's
The Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center,  Inc. will host its 10th Annual Old Bethpage Walk for Alzheimer’s &  Mexican Fiesta, which take place Saturday at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, located at 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage, NY. This is a 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) walk, which will be held rain or shine.
