This Week: Purple Elephant Wins Food Award; Coaches vs. Cancer

A look at what residents should know about this week in Northport.

Happy Monday, Northport. It's the last week of January. Here's a look at what you should know:

The Purple Elephant Wins SNAIL of Approval
The Purple Elephant in Northport recently earned the Slow Food Huntington SNAIL of Approval, which recognizes establishments that contribute to the quality, sustainability and authenticity of food in the Huntington area. Congratulations. Read more about The Purple Elephant here.

NYS Regents Testing Begins
Students in the Northport-East Northport School District will take the January New York State Regents exams this week. Morning and afternoon tests will be administered throughout the week.

Northport Lady Tigers Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Game
The sixth annual "Score for a Cure" will take place Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Northport High School gymnasium. The Lady Tigers will face off against the Whitman Lady Wildcats. Residents are encouraged to come out to support the team and raise money for cancer research. Food, raffles and entertainment by the Tigerettes and pep band will in full swing. 

Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and coaches across the nation who are mobilizing their teams to play with a purpose and take positive action in the fight against cancer. The purpose of Coaches vs. Cancer is to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living among students, faculty, school staff, fans and the community at large, through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising and advocacy activities. 

Sunny Weather Ahead
After two weeks of snow in a row, it appears Commack will get a break this week. Sunny weather is expected for most of the week with showers possible Monday. Forecasters suggest the high Monday will be 38 degrees, however, the cold will come back in Tuesday with a high of 17 degrees.
