Video: Young Northport Philanthropist Honored

Kyle Orent raises over $135,000 for Canine Companions for Independence.

Kyle Orent, 14, from Northport was recently honored by Canine Companions for Independence (CCI), a service dog organization, by having one of their service dogs named after him.

Orent learned of CCI from Sara Jean Hammel of West Islip seven years ago. Sara Jean Hammel was coincidentally paired with his name sake service dog and graduated with the dog in the recent CCI graduation in August.

When he was seven years old, Orent, upon learning about CCI, set up a lemonade stand and started raising money for the organization. Seven years later, after moving to online auctions as fundraisers, he has raised more than $135,000 for the organization.

When asked why he did it, Kyle said he simply likes dogs and likes to help people, so CCI was the perfect organization for him to support.

Check out the video to see the highlights of the graduation. For more information, you can check out Kyle's website at www.kyleslemonade.org and CCI at www.cci.org.
