Hundreds flocked to the farm for a taste of the simple life on Saturday.

Locals and city slickers took a shot at the simple life on Saturday for the annual at the historic  in Northport.

Over a hundred people enjoyed fresh local seafood, corn-on-the-cob, hot dogs, hamburgers, hay rides, pony rides, face painting, and more to benefit , the nonprofit group in charge of maintaining the nineteenth century farm.

Long Island Sound lobsters went for $12 a pop with a side of Northport Farmer's Market corn and sold out fast, but anyone left wanting could enter the famous pie-eating contest at 6 p.m. and have it out with a chocolate pudding and whipped cream pie. The only catch? No hands allowed-- much more easily said than done.

Jeff Mucciolo, lead singer of The Moonshine Band, was the first to enter the competition, followed by six other men who soon fell behind Mucciolo and one other contender. The two were neck in neck until Mucciolo pried the pie crust out of its tin and snapped it up with a jerk of his head, sealing his victory.

All proceeds of the Barnyard Bash went toward the Friends of the Farm, which relies heavily on donations and volunteer support to maintain the two-acre farm.

Previous owner Bill Davenport and his wife sold the farm to the Town and County in 2007. Davenport began working at the dairy farm, originally 30 acres, when he was 13, and witnessed the steady disappearance of farmland across Long Island. Volunteer support from the community is essential to preservation of farms like his, he said.

"[The volunteers] do a lot but they still need more help. People say, ‘Oh, it’s great,’ but it’s only great because they work so hard to keep it that way."
