Moonjumpers Donates $10,100 to St. Baldrick’s

Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation has donated $10,100 to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to assist the organization’s quest to find cures for childhood cancers.

The donation followed two successful fundraisers held by the organization, which partnered with well-known Northport bartender and man-about-town Steve Donohue in his quest to support St. Baldrick’s, which has contributed more than $120 million to cancer research efforts since its founding in 2000.

The fundraising events, which were held at The Ritz Café and Napper Tandy’s, featured live entertainment provided by Peter Mazzeo & The Hit Squad. At the Napper Tandy’s party, Mr. Donohue shaved his head to demonstrate his solidarity with those children undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

“Thanks to the support from local merchants and people within our community, we were able to exceed Mr. Donohue’s personal fundraising goal from the two combined events,” said Robert Benson, Moonjumpers president. “As per Steve’s request, monies donated were made in honor of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pabst Donahue.”

The Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation is a registered New York State non-profit and IRS approved 501(c) tax-exempt organization. It is comprised of local Huntington residents from many different walks of life. Members of the group have a similar interest in helping those in the community who need it most. Moonjumpers supports initiatives designed to improve the quality of life of children and families, injured war veterans and others in need.

Since its founding in 2011, Moonjumpers has been active on the local scene. It has contributed thousands of dollars to purchase Christmas and holiday toys for hundreds of underprivileged youth in the area, donated more than 100 prom dresses and 40 pairs of designer shoes to help teenagers in need, collected over 300 warm winter jackets to assist the homeless and those struggling financially, gathered 300 pounds of food and $350 in donation for The Refuge in East Northport, helped paint the Tri CYA facility in Huntington Station and coordinated the motivational appearance and talk of New York Yankees advisor Ray Negron, gave Tri-CYA a new computer for its after school programs, donated food to the victims of Hurricane Sandy, raised money for the Children’s Organ Transplant Association with proceeds from a fundraising party earmarked to help a local high school graduate who has battled serious illness over the past year and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help several local charitable organizations.
